Twill is characterized by diagonal lines on the face of the fabric where the weft thread is woven over and under two or more warp threads forming the diagonal pattern. It is common that the diagonal lines run from left to right up to the right side of the fabric. For centuries, twill was one of Iceland‘s main export products.

Bird's eye twill is characterized by forming a diamond pattern or circles. The diamond shape is created when pointed threading is used to thread the heddles. There are many possibilities in bird's eye twill and that can be increased by increasing the amount of shafts and treadles.

Broken twill is created when the weave alternates to the left and right without consistency, forming a zig-zag pattern. Broken twill can often be confused with satin because of the alternating threads.

Block weave is structured when groups of warp and weft threads can produce two different looking interlacement. One identifies as pattern and the other as background. Block reversed twill can be good for table-cloths, pillows, clothing and more.
